It’s only taken roughly two years to get to this point, but the basement is finally wired and ready for drywall. Hopefully by the middle of this week, drywall will be done and I can move on to the next stages of the project. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take another two years to get the next part done.
We’ve poured a lot of work into the basement in the past three weeks since we started working away on this project again. In that time we’ve planned, re-planned, wired, ran about a mile of cabling, framed, replaced things and tried to kill me a few times with electricity. As it stands, I’ve been shocked 5 times now and tried to weld an electrical outlet to the wall once. Stay would like to point out that the number of times that electricity has run through his body still stands at zero.
At this point, we’re about ready to move on to drywall. Then paint. Then tile. So there’s still a ways to go to get things done, but we’re getting there nonetheless. We’ll be having a painting party if anyone really would like to attend. Date to-be-announced. Obviously actually getting the walls done still stands in the way of that. I guess I should start looking for furniture and electronics.

For the second time in a month, the flour container in my kitchen has inexplicably fallen onto the floor while unattended…..and somehow not break in the process. But for today’s photo, I figured a picture of the aftermath is fitting. Since I wasn’t here the last time it happened, I guess I could say that I believe you now, Stay.
It’s hard to believe, but two years have passed since I originally started planning out the basement. All criticism aside on that note, I’ve finally started working on it again. A big step in the right direction was getting the garage finished and the shelves put it so that I could get all of the stuff that I was storing in the basement moved out.
Stay and I have spent a few hours the past two days planning out some of the first steps and I’ve updated the projects page of the site accordingly. I’ve modified the phases to depict the current plan, removing a lot of the stuff that just wasn’t going to happen.
A big early thanks to Stay for helping lay out the wiring and for wandering around Home Depot with me for a couple of hours today acquiring parts. Hopefully I’ll have good progress to report and pictures to get posted as the process gets under way.
Sorry for the lack of photos the last couple of days. I’ve had some camera issues that have been holding me back from putting new ones up. I’ll have to work on getting that replaced one of these days here I guess. I’ve been pretty busy lately as usual. After I got back from Minneapolis last Monday, Kristi came to town for the week to look for jobs and hang out and such. My old friend, Clay Cumbie, was in town for a show as well so it was great to get the chance to hang out with him for awhile. Definitely a much needed break from everything.
It’s back to the grind today, however. Kristi flew out this morning and I’ve been flying around all over the place. Atlanta to Phoenix to Long Beach and now I’m waiting on a very-delayed flight to Oakland. It never really ends with me.

I’m back from Minnesota. It was a whirlwind 36-hour trip that definitely wore me out to the point that it’s hard to even function today. Overall though, it was a decent trip. I got to have someone with me to work on the resort, I got to see the Mall of America and I got to meet up with an old friend, albeit only for a few minutes before I hopped on my plane back to Atlanta last night. I grabbed today’s photo on the boat dock behind the hotel right before we left to head back to Minneapolis.
I hope everyone has a great Father’s Day. Unfortunately, I’ll be hopping on a plane to Minneapolis for work when I’d much rather be hopping on one to Virginia Beach to spend the day with my dad. Spending that time together is one of those things you take for granted until you can’t do it on a daily basis and I most definitely miss it everyday. So to all of those that can spend the day with their dads, make it a great one.
Went to Burton and Megan’s wedding last night. All the best to them in the future.
Yesterday was a long day of travel so I didn’t really have time to figure out a picture for the day. So today, we have Enzo. He may not be the brightest pup sometimes, but at least he tries…..kind of.
So on a third straight day of wandering around bus yards in San Francisco, I’m pretty sure that I’m on the verge of going insane. On top of that, I get carsick just looking at one of these bad boys right now. I guess that’s what 10 hours of bus riding while working on a computer will do to you.
Heading home tomorrow hopefully, so maybe I can escape these beasts.
