The World of Shipping
Once again, Comcast has left us without the internet so I’m writing this post in Notepad for later usage. My gripes for Comcast today are however overshadowed by my complaints against the shipping services that we have.
First, there’s UPS. About a month ago, they were supposed to deliver my computer case. Now I understand that they have policies, but sometimes I get a little frustrated about that. On the day they were delivering all my stuff, they delivered $600 worth of computer parts while I was at work, and had no problem just leaving those on my porch. However, they wouldn’t leave the case. So electronics are fine to leave, but not an aluminum box. The best part? They were all coming from the same company. So three days in a row, they left notices that they tried to deliver the case, but noone was available. It also went on to mention that someone had to be available to sign for it. They said they’d make one last delivery attempt before returning it to the sender, so I left work about an hour early and came home. Every other delivery attempt was between 130 and 2pm. The day I come home early to get it, it showed up at around 630 or 7.
Next, there’s FedEx. Now I’ve never had a problem getting a package on time with FedEx, so don’t get me wrong about that. But here’s my gripe with them. I had a shipment this past week that was scheduled to arrive this Monday. So last Friday at work, I check the tracking number and it say “On truck for delivery”. I was pumped, it’d be nice to actually get a package early for once. So I got home, sat around for a few hours and proceeded to watch the FedEx truck stop in front of my house, and then drive away. I go online later that night to check the tracking number and find this status message: “Delivery scheduled for June 26th”. Just leave the package!!! I’m sure the recipient really won’t mind all that much!
And now there’s my current problem with the US Postal Service. My new HIDs are on their way to me from Hong Kong. I got home from work yesterday to a delivery notification in my mailbox saying that they tried to deliver my package. The form also stated that “Recipient does not need to be present to sign”. So here’s my question, why didn’t they just leave the package? Whatever, no big deal I guess, I signed the little card, put it back in the mailbox last night and put the flag up. So here I sit, at 9:02 PM and guess what, the flag’s still up on the mailbox. That’s right, the wonderfully reliable USPS decided it didn’t need to come to my neighborhood today. This is a fairly regular occurance actually. I’m calling tomorrow to complain. I know it won’t help and they won’t care, but it’ll make me feel better.
So yeah, am I being unreasonable in my expectations? Or does the shipping world just hate me?
