Just Forget About The Rain

8 October 2008 Comments

We definitely need the rain here in Atlanta, so I tend not to complain when we get a good bit like we have today.  I don’t feel as bad about being at work when it rains (though I was plenty late getting there this morning) and in general, a dreary day makes you appreciate the nice ones a little more, but I still have a few peeves about the rain overall.

Mainly, the fact that, when it rains, the stereo in my car doesn’t work for roughly the next three days.  The highlight of our drought over the past year or so?  I always have radio in my car.  Sad, but true.  The part that really gets to me the most is that my car has been to the dealer for service no less than 12 times and have mentioned this problem and it has been “fixed” 5 of those times.  (I promise, I’m a car guy, it’s normal to keep track of these things.)  Nevertheless, without fail, when it rains, within a minute or two of driving, there is unbearable static coming through my speakers and I just have to turn it off for the next three days, as was the case on my drive home from work this evening.

Now, for those that know me, I don’t really have much room to complain when it comes to driving to and from work.  I live a little over a mile from the office, which usually puts me in the car for roughly 4 minutes before getting to the office or getting home.  So no radio really shouldn’t be a problem at all, right?  Well not today, folks.  Not today.  I head home and have sound to listen to for about 38 seconds before the static began.  So off goes the radio and I figure I’ll just spend the remaining 3 minutes of the trip entertaining myself by singing (which rivals the static mind you).  Sure enough, I make the final turn to head home and traffic is completely stopped.  Roughly a 3 minute walk to my house left me sitting in a silent car for a little over half an hour.  Only on a rainy day.

Well, no more dwelling on it for now.  Stay’s coming over this evening to help with the electrical and terminating the other wiring in the basement so that’ll keep me occupied.  At least I got to enjoy 38 seconds of Trapt’s new CD before my radio went out however.  It’s just too bad the song was “Forget About The Rain”.
